About the Choir
Our very first rehearsal took place on 2nd October 1970 - yes, that means we turned 50 during the Covid lockdown!
In the first full season the choir of some 30 singers gave four concerts, performing Handel’s Lenten Cantata in Roydon Parish Church, Eye Baptist Church, Bury St Edmunds and Diss Congregational Churches.
Since then we have continued to meet in our home town of Diss on Wednesday evenings from September to May. We are extremely fortunate to be led by our brilliant conductor, Sarah-Jane Bullock, and accompanied by the exceptionally talented Shona Huckfield. They are backed by a wider musical team and committee, who work behind the scenes to keep the choir's programme interesting and varied whilst planning our concert schedule. We sing everything from songs from the shows to modern pop classics, and classical music from Bach to Karl Jenkins - and pretty much everything in between. We are exceptionally fortunate to be restricted only by the capabilities of the choir itself, as there is surely nothing that Sarah-Jane can't conduct nor that Shona can't play - if it was written for a full orchestra, or for the digeridoo and bongo drums, she can do it justice!
The choir works hard, but practices are always good fun, and you're sure to come away with a smile on your face - for instance, we sometimes warm up to Benedict Cumberbatch in a number of different keys. Intrigued? - Come and find out!
